There are generally four axle grades availble for Sprint Kart Racing.   Some manufactures have many more grades of stiffness.  Axle stiffnes in combination with hub length, and torsion bars, affect rear grip.

Stiffness Designation Description
Soft  A or S Softer axles are used if conditions are extremely grippy or where there is excess rubber build up.
Medium B or M Medium axles are used by most karts
Hard C or HHard axles are used when the weather is cold in slippery track conditions or when rules mandate the use of harder compound tyres.
Extra Hard DExtra Hard axles are used when the weather is cold in slippery track conditions or when rules mandate the use of harder compound tyres
