Engine Setup

  • Pipe Length = 385mm (AKA pipe) (longer for older pipes)
  • Set pop off on carby to 9.5
  • Lever height 0.8 (without gasket)
  • Setup gearing to achieve 15,000 RPM
  • Mixture 18 to 1 (Castor/Synthetic such as Shell M100)
  • Spark Plug - Sydney 8 (winter)  9.5 (summer)
  • Max engine temp - 235C (prolonged use at this temp will lead to engine siezure)

Maintenance

  • If racing - new ring every 5 hours, new piston every 10 hours
  • Engine Rebuild at 20 hours.   More than 20 hours could lead to catastrophic engine failure.

Tuning

  • Start with long flex
  • Start with low gearing gearing (more rear teeth).
  • Increase (less rear teeth) until lap times reduce
  • Once gearing is set, start reducing flex length (2 mm will make a difference)
  • Mixture - Start with Low at 1 1/2 turns out High at 1/2 turn out. During session adjust high.
